3 tips for outdoor summer photos

Summertime is here and the hot weather is upon us. Just because it’s hot outside, doesn’t mean your summer photos will be miserable. Planning ahead while considering these tips will have you feeling cool in the heat of the summer during your next photo session. Here are 3 helpful tips before you have outdoor summer photos taken.

Tip #1: Plan to have your photos taken in the early morning or at sunset

To avoid the super-hot temperatures in the summer months, plan to have your photos taken during the early morning hours, before 8 AM, or during sunset, between 7-8 PM. These are also beautiful times for ideal lighting. If you’re looking for those glowy golden hour photos, these windows of time will help to achieve that look you’re hoping for.

Tip #2: Dress in lightweight or light-colored clothing

When preparing for your summer photos, think about what you’re going to wear. Choosing to wear light colors will help if you’re standing in the sun. Darker colors attract more heat than lighter colors. Lightweight clothing will also help to avoid becoming a sweaty mess. Make sure your clothing is breathable. Linen is a great example of this.

Tip #3: Wear a little sunscreen

Putting on a light layer of SPF will help you not feel like you’re getting a sunburn during your photos. If you’re standing in direct sunlight for more than 15 minutes, you may get a little pink or red. We don’t want you walking away from your session with a sunburn. Adding a little SPF beforehand doesn’t hurt one bit. Especially if you’re bringing little ones along to your session, you don’t want them to end up with a sunburn.
