I can’t EVEN with these first birthday pictures of Evan! Around this time last year, I took her newborn photos, and now she is turning one. We had so much fun playing around with some cake, and celebrating her first year while taking these first birthday pictures!
First birthdays are a big deal! Lots of growth and changes have been happening within your baby’s first year. They are working on eating, walking, babbling, and making the sweetest facial expressions. All the changes are worth capturing and documenting before your one-year-old changes more and more in the blink of an eye!
Several people ask me if I take pictures of first birthday parties. I strongly encourage you to hire a professional photographer for first birthday photos, however, I lean towards booking a separate photo session aside from the party itself. There will be a lot going on at your child’s first birthday party, and having one-on-one time with your little one for their first birthday pictures is best. This allows us to really capture your little one’s personality and let them have some fun without all the distractions that come along with a first birthday party. Grandparents, parents, friends, and others can overwhelm your little one during their first birthday party, which is why I like to spend some quality time with your one-year-old to make sure we capture some fun memories for everyone!
During these first birthday pictures, it is fun to include some type of dessert or treat to let them eat and play around with. You never know if they are going to take a deep dive into the cake or approach it with hesitancy. It usually takes them a few minutes to realize the cake tastes good and is all for them.
Here are a few other first birthday pictures I have taken with fun desserts as well: Max and Landon. There will be several more one-year-olds to have their first birthday pictures taken in the coming months and I cannot wait! The majority of the first birthday pictures I take are part of the maternity + year one package I offer, which captures maternity, newborn, 6-month, and 12-month milestones.
With Evan, we also incorporated a fun number one gold balloon for her to hold onto during these first birthday pictures. She wasn’t quite sure what to do with it but she knew it was for her!
I am also in favor of keeping it simple with the outfit you choose for your little one to wear for their first birthday photos. Evan wore a silky smooth and perfectly stretchy, bamboo bodysuit from Kyte Baby, along with a matching bamboo fabric white bow headband. Evan was comfy and looking her very best in all her Kyte Baby apparel!
