Many photographers offer what is called mini sessions. If you aren’t familiar with photography offerings or what to expect, keep reading to get a good sense of what a mini session is.
With fall and Christmas right around the corner, mini sessions will be in full swing before we know it! But first, what is a mini session?
Mini sessions are typically offered around a specific time of year or with a theme in mind. My preference is to offer spring and fall mini sessions. The spring sessions offer a refreshing opportunity to get the family together for some new photos as nature starts to bloom in full force. The fall mini sessions are usually set up to have a Christmas vibe. This way you have plenty of time to order your Christmas cards before the holiday rush of Thanksgiving and Christmas.
What is a mini session?
A mini session is usually between 10-20 minutes long. The location and styling are chosen by the photographer. The time slots are booked back-to-back, so it’s important not to arrive late to your session with the risk of losing your time slot.
Mini sessions provide you with a small window of time to have photos taken and you receive fewer photos in your gallery than you would if you book a full portrait session. The cost of the mini session is reflective of the number of photos you receive in your gallery as well as the amount of time you have during the session.
There are no outfit changes or options for multiple locations during your time slot.
Mini sessions are great for families with small children. Children tend to have short attention spans, especially when it comes to having photos taken, and mini sessions are a great way to capture family photos quickly and painlessly.
How do I book a mini session?
Mini session dates and times will be announced to repeat clients first and then the remaining dates and times will be released to the public. Repeat clients have first priority, but must sign up and commit to their time slot promptly. Mini session dates and times are announced on my social media accounts as well as to my email list.
