Anticipating the need for family photos can feel daunting. Trying to get everyone on board to have family photos taken, getting the outfits picked out (without any arguments), and picking out a date that works for everyone – the struggle is real. But, you’ll be so glad you took the time to plan for family photos. As a seasoned Greensboro Family Photographer, here are 3 reasons why you don’t need to stress.
1. Let me help you

Once we start talking and planning for your family photo session, I truly listen to what your vision is. Whether you want to make sure you have a family photo with everyone in a meaningful location, or, you just want candid photos of the kids at their age, I got you. Wrangling the family can feel like a huge challenge, but please trust me and know, you’re doing your best. You and the kids will look back and be glad you had these photos taken to document this time in their life. If you’re struggling with picking out what everyone will wear, let me help you – just ask.
2. Pick outfits wisely

Picking out what to wear for your family photos shouldn’t require too much time and energy. Believe it or not, I bet you have everything you all need to wear in the closet and dressers right now. Pro tip: start with one persons outfit first then build around it. A lot of times, this can mean Mom or Dad’s outfit, then you pair complementary colors and textures to go with it. If Mom has a dress she really wants to wear, use that as your “anchor” outfit and build off of it. It’s always best to avoid loud prints, patterns, and colors so when you look at the photos you see the people rather than the clothing first. You don’t want the clothing you pick to distract or take over the family photos.
3. Relax

Some of the best photos turn out to be the ones when you aren’t focused on the camera so much and you’re just enjoying the moment. Candid photos are what evoke an emotional reaction within us. We want these photos to look and feel natural and effortless, not overly posed or uncomfortable. This is also helpful when the little kids are involved and they don’t always follow strict instructions, nor do they like to sit still for longer than half a second. Just know, the harder we try to force a good photo, the more that works against us rather than for us. When we relax and go with the flow of how everyone is interacting and living in the moment, the better the photos turn out.
