Okay, so you’re engaged. Congratulations! Now you’re staring at a list of vendors and wondering where to start.
If you were my friend, I’d sit you down and tell you what I wish every couple knew about choosing a wedding photographer in North Carolina. I wouldn’t give you a pitch. I’d just tell you the truth, so here it is.

You Don’t Have to Pick the First Person You Meet
Seriously. Talk to a few photographers. Look at full galleries, not only the best-of shots on Instagram. Notice how each person makes you feel when you chat.
You might love my work, or you might find someone who fits you better. Either way, that’s a good outcome. The right photographer is the one you feel relaxed around. Trust your gut on this one.

The Timeline Matters More Than You Think
Here’s something nobody told me before I started shooting weddings. A rushed schedule shows up in the photos. Stressed couples look stressed. Make sure you talk through parts of your wedding day you don’t want to miss. Your photographer and wedding planner need to know the things that are most important to you and the person you’re marrying. Then, the timeline will be tailored to highlight those parts of the day.

Your Venue Will Surprise You
I’ve learned never to assume. A barn can feel dark, and a ballroom can glow. Walk through your venue at the same time of day as your ceremony if you can. It tells you more than any photo ever will.
Small Weddings Are Just as Big
Some of my favorite days have had barely twenty people. So don’t let anyone tell you that a smaller wedding needs smaller photos. It doesn’t.

Pick Someone You’d Want in the Room
You’ll spend your whole wedding day with this person. They’ll see you getting ready, crying during your vows, and dancing badly at midnight. Pick someone who feels like a friend, not a vendor.
Also, trust your gut here again. If a conversation feels stiff or salesy, don’t ignore it.
Ask Questions, Even the “Silly” Ones
Ask about backup plans, delivery times, and what happens if it rains. Ask what a typical day looks like. A good photographer enjoys these questions. After all, they help you feel confident and ready.

One Last Thing
Wedding planning can feel loud. Everyone has opinions, and every vendor wants a “yes”. I hope this felt more like a calm conversation than another sales page.
If you have questions about venues, light, timelines, or anything else, send me a message. I’m happy to help.
