Courtney & Hunter’s Golden Hour Engagement Session at Summerfield Farms, NC

Little did we know we’d be weather tracking a storm in NC, before this engagement session. But that’s exactly how this session went — and somehow, it turned out even better than the “perfect weather” plan we originally had. Let’s dive into Courtney & Hunter’s golden hour engagement session at Summerfield Farms, NC.

We’d scheduled the session for golden hour. Manifesting that dreamy, soft-light window right before sunset that every engagement photographer in the Greensboro area will tell you is worth building your whole timeline around. Summerfield Farms is one of my favorite spots for this exact reason. The open fields, the rustic barns, and the way the light stretches across the property in the evening make it one of the best locations for engagement photos near Greensboro.

A few hours before the session, the sky had other plans. A bad storm rolled in fast, and for a few hours before we got started, it was a little touch-and-go.

That’s one of the things I love most about shooting engagement photos in North Carolina — the landscape gives you so much to work with, even when the weather doesn’t cooperate. A little unpredictability usually makes for better storytelling anyway.

Why Summerfield Farms Is a Favorite for Engagement Sessions

If you’re newly engaged and searching for engagement photo locations around Summerfield or Greensboro, Summerfield Farms is consistently at the top of my recommendation list. A few reasons why:

  • Variety in one location — open fields, wooded paths, and rustic structures mean we can capture a few different looks without ever leaving the property
  • Gorgeous natural light — especially during golden hour, which is when I schedule the majority of my engagement sessions
  • Room to move and be yourselves — the space is big enough that it never feels crowded or staged, which makes for more natural, relaxed photos

It’s a location that photographs beautifully in every season, which is part of why I’m already looking forward to going back.

A Sneak Peek at What’s Next

Here’s the fun part, this wasn’t just an engagement session for Courtney and Hunter, it was also a bit of a location scout. The two of them are getting married in 2027 at the Pole Barn at Summerfield Farms is the venue. As a North Carolina wedding photographer, getting to return to a location I already know and love, with a couple I already have a rapport with, is basically a dream assignment. So consider this blog post round one of many. I can’t wait to be back on this property capturing their wedding day. I have a feeling that storm-dodging golden hour session was just a preview of how much fun we’re going to have together over the next year.
